Kristen Black - Synchronized Skating Director My life’s passion all started at the age of 5 when my mom signed me up at Barrington Area Figure Skating Club for lessons. Skating has been in my family for generations; my mother shared her dream with me, and I will someday pass it along to my future children. I was involved with my very first ice show at the age of 6. That same year is when I saw the synchronized skating team called the Starlets, and I fell in love. I told my mom that I wanted to be on that team someday. The very next year, I tried out and made their drill team the Stardusters. From there I worked my way up to the very team I saw that day. Most mornings I was up before the sun on my way to the rink. It was a long but rewarding journey, and I loved every minute of it. The synchro team, the Starlets, that I was on competed all over the US and across the world. We received 3 time USFSA National Gold titles in 96, 97 and 98, that qualified us every time to compete in Worlds. We traveled overseas to places like Sweden, France, and Italy. All 3 years we took home the World Bronze medal. It was a huge honor to be a part of that team, and it helped me become the person that I am today.
I have taught synchro teams, classes, and private lessons for many years, and my students and teams have competed and won the majority of their competitions. I now have the honor of coaching the IceStars youth synchronized skating team and I am ecstatic! I look forward to a wonderful year and many more to come!

Kara Griffith - Team Coach
Since I was five years old, figure skating has always been a huge part of my life. I began skating in group lessons and participating in ice shows at the Kenosha Ice Arena. After countless hours of practices, ice shows, and competitions, I passed up to Freestyle 7, and then I passed up to my Juvenile Moves in the Field test. While I continued to take private lessons for my solo skating, I also started skating on a synchronized team called the Ice Kadets when I was seven. I skated on the Ice Kadets for six years and then moved to the ZK Ice stars when the Zion and Kenosha teams combined. Then I skated on the Ice Stars for three years. This year, I decided to no longer skate on a synchronized team, but instead, coach. I have taught group lessons at Kenosha Ice, and I can’t wait to start coaching a team! Good Luck IceStars!
